The workshop fee includes round-trip passage on the steam train from Durango to Silverton which will take us through some of the most dramatic and spectacular scenery in the Rocky Mountains.  Photograph the raging Animas River, the famous “High Line”, and beautiful Aspen groves on our way to the historic mining town of Silverton. You’ll have the option of taking the afternoon train back to Durango, or join us by van as we drive  back to Durango on the Million Dollar Highway through Molas Pass and stopping at several locations on the way to photograph Colorado’s famous 14,000′ peaks.  During the week we’ll also visit several strategic spots where the lighting, background scenery, and position are ideal to capture some ‘pass-by’ photos of this historic train. Night time photo session at the D&SNG RR yard

• Night Photography at the D&SNG Roundhouse & Turntable
A very rare and exclusive photo opportunity!  Our group will have a private photo session in the train yard where the D&SNGRR crew will pull out a locomotive under steam onto the roundtable so you can capture unique images of these historic and fully-restored engines  …at night!

• Mesa Verde National Park
This World Heritage site is dedicated to preserving the ruins, culture, and artifacts of the 1400 year-old ‘Anasazi’ tribe. We’ll visit numerous cave dwellings and ruins, including world famous Cliff Palace House and Spruce Tree Ruin. Cliff Palace House

• Old Town Durango
We’ll spend some time exploring Durango’s historic downtown and visit the First Avenue neighborhood with it’s charming Victorian homes, the Strater Hotel, and the railroad depot. There are nice shots to be had along the Animas River as it runs through town and, if we’re lucky, we might even capture a few kayakers taking practice runs through the challenging Smelter Rapids course.

• Silverton, Colorado
Located at 9,318′ elevation in the heart of the San Juan Mountain’s high country, Silverton was established back in 1874 as a silver mining camp and still retains much of it’s old-timey rustic charm.  We’ll spend a few hours here after the morning train ride and photograph the charm, history, and artifacts of this quaint and picturesque 1800’s mining town. Mountain Bikers • Mountain Bikers Photograph the fast-moving action of world-class mountain bikers as they ride down scenic stretches of Durango bike trails. We’ll discuss best practices for stopping the action as well as how to use flash to capture peak moments. …with additional opportunities to be announced soon.

What to Expect…
The Durango Downtown Inn will serve as our base and we have negotiated a group room rate for workshop attendees.
On Sunday evening before the workshop starts, we will host an informal “meet & greet” where attendees can check-in, meet other attendees, and chat with Sharon and Jeff.

During the week you’ll learn the basic and advanced techniques regarding exposure, lighting, and composition. We’ll answer all your questions about lens selection, exposure, video capture …even flash!
